Welcome
Aeropuerto de Barcelona (sometimes referred to as Barcelona El Prat Airport) is located thirteen kilometres south-west of Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain. Renowned for being the cultural and administrative centre of the region of Catalonia, Barcelona is an ideal starting point for any holidaymaker hoping to explore the region. Aside from being a major tourist attraction itself, Barcelona is also within easy driving distance of many other famous sight-seeing destinations, including the monastery at Montserrat, the breathtaking Pyrenees mountain range, and the city of Figueres (home to the internationally renowned Salvador Dali museum).
There are several car hire companies based at Barcelona Airport including Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Solmar and National Atesa. The companies have desks in two of the three airport terminals (B and C). Upon leaving the airport, keep an eye out for the C31 Motorway - this is the easiest way to get to and from the airport and will likely be the road you use to return. If you head south along the C31 you will connect with the C32, a major motorway which takes you towards Sant Pere de Ribes. If you head north, the C31 will take you straight into the centre of Barcelona itself. If you continue to follow this road through Barcelona you will eventually connect up with the northern section of the C32. Note that in the warmer months Barcelona's temperatures can hit highs of around 35°C (95°F) and in the winter months (at night time) be as low as 4°C (39°F). If is recommended that your hire car is equipped with a reverse-cycle air-conditioner which will act as a heater if you are travelling in the winter months, but will keep you cool if travelling in the summer.
